Beginners' patchwork quilt in a day with Laureen Nicholls
If you've always wanted to have a go at making a patchwork quilt, this course is for you!
This beginners' workshop covers the basics of patchwork and quilting in a day. At the end of the day, you will have the skills to create a complete quilt and will take home a completed (or almost complete - you may need to finish the binding at home) small lap or baby quilt.
You will learn how to construct a quilt top using a charm pack (pre-cut 5 and a half inch squares) with lots of tips for sewing accurate seams and matching up points. Then you will be taught how to put the quilt, wadding and backing together, different quilting methods and binding techniques, including how to cut fabric accurately for binding strips.
Skills needed: This class is perfect for beginners to patchwork and quilting. Students must know how to use a sewing machine to sew a basic straight stitch.
Materials: All materials are included in the price of the workshop.
Students will need to bring a basic sewing kit (pins, needles, scissors etc) and bring or hire a sewing machine. You will also need a quilting or walking foot for your machine.
